‘So, what is this thing?’
The name Three Chairs comes from Walden: "I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society." These letters are a place where I jump between the three: the personal, the interpersonal, the societal. Think of these letters as ‘riffing’; a sandbox where I try to figure things out.
I’ve written about Van Gogh and the value of creating art while depressed, reflections on not living the ‘right life’, a piece on slowly tumbling out of love, letter after letter about the struggle to find solidarity and moral clarity in a difficult world, an exploration of Lent and my addiction to a specific model of slot machine… Behind most of my letters is a piece of art that I believe is beautiful.
‘But… who are you?’
Hi! I’m Michael! Who are you?
Anything else I should know?
I’ll try my best not to clog your inboxes; there is simply too much in the world to read and do. Thanks for reading — I hope you enjoy.
